LETTER FROM OU

Dear Incoming Comets,
I can not wait for you to be at OU. Do not get to nervous or overwhelmed. Make sure you relax when you can. College starts out fast and busy and never slows down. There is always something to do or something that needs to be done. Make sure you stay on top of your schedule and get stuff done when you can and when it needs to be done. Keep a schedule and study when ever you have time. Class is hard, but its nothing you cant handle if you work hard. Do NOT try and cram all your studying into one night for you big chemistry test, it doesn't work. I also encourage you to get involved on campus whether it be in a sorority, sport, or a student leadership position. OU offers so much to do and really can help you get out there and meet new people. College is different without your parents telling you everything you have to do so stay on top of things and do not get to crazy. And the food is great, I love the cafe. The rooms are small so do not try and bring you whole closet with you like i did. It is not working out. Good luck and I can not wait to see you at OU!
                                                                   Love, Mandy!

BYSTANDER

I have been a bystander of a lot of things, especially at OU. I have seen people upset and crying because they are overwhelmed. I have been a bystander to watching two room mates get in a huge fight. I have been a bystander to watching peoples feelings get hurt because they were not chosen for something. I wish a bystander would step into an argument that got blown way out of portion, but ended up ruining a friendship out of a stupid fight. I think college students do speak up against wrong doing because they are scared of getting in trouble or getting involved. Also I think they do not want to get involved in something that has nothing to do with them, even if it is there good friends involved.

PRIORITIES

I think my priorities as a college student are to go to class, work hard, and figure out what I want to do after I finish college. I think my main priority is to find what I love doing and make a career out of it, one that I would love doing for the rest of my life. I also think one of my priority is to find out more about myself and the goals I want to obtain in my life. Before I left for OU my priorities were too go to school, get my grades, and do what my parents told me to do by following the rules. Leaving for college changed my priorities drastically. I now set my own rules that are important to me.

INFLUENCES

I have been influenced by many people including my parents, friends, sisters, and teammates. Most of the time I have been influenced in a positive way, but also their have been a few times when I have just done what was fun at the time. I think some of the most influential people i have met have been teammates of mine. There is always someone out to take your position or trying to get more playing time, so we continuously had to work hard to keep our spot. Watching everyone work hard around you influences you to work hard as well, not only on the field but also in your everyday life.

WHO AM I?

Im Mandy. Im a freshman at OU and i LOVE it so far. My family and friends are very important to me, i talk to my parents everyday. In high school i dedicated all my time to soccer. I played for a club team that traveled all the time and I also played for my school. My school team won three state championships when i was there. I was a starting player all four years and a senior captain. So in high school I was known as the athlete and all my friends were athletes too. After my senior year i decided to quit soccer and now I am trying to find out who I am off the field. So who am I? Im not sure yet, but Im working on figuring that out.
